Step by Step on how to do white belt kata taikyoku shodan performed by Jason Leung Sensei 4th dan in shotokan Karate. There are 20 moves in this shotokan kata. They consist of gedan barai and oi tsuki. These are the only two techniques that are required, as well as a good zenkutsu dachi or front stance. Make sure to distribute your weight 70 percent to the front and 30 percent in the back. So now, at the convenience of learning and practicing karate in your own home, you will be able to watch this and repeat this as many times as you like. OSS!

I learned this kata back in the 80s and I’m proud I remembered 99% of it. Good memories. Thank you.

Excellent breakdown, the details on the foot positions for the turns was something I needed.

Great video! I had my first Shotokan Karate class last Monday and I've had a total of 3 classes. I wanted to practice this before my next class which is Monday. I managed to do it 3 times in a row after slowly going through it with you. The spin was the most difficult but after I watched how you did it several times it finally just clicked haha.

Thank you for this. My daughter (six-years-old) is finding it very helpful, especially the block as you turn.

Thank you so much for this step by step video. My son is due for his white belt exam and I have absolutely no idea how to prepare him for it. As one of the comments said, this video is a lifesaver! Hope you will keep posting more karate videos.

Hi! I just wanted to say thank you for this! I’m not currently enrolled in karate because of my tight gymnastics schedule but I love to practice shotokan karate at home! This was a very helpful tutorial and helped me learn the tricky stuff of this kata! Thank you sensei! Oss!

Thank you for doing this video. My kids just started learning and the Kata is very confusing to them. Now that I understand the movements, I can help them out.

30+yrs of karate and I still practice Shodan, Nidan and Sandan Kata.

I concentrate on many things, kime, breath, body vibration … also Internal waza

Taikyoku in Japanese translates to Grand Ultimate (Yin & Yang) Funikoshi O Sensi was highly educated in the four books and the Five Classics (Confucian Doctrine)

I can help to think that he thought of these kata in terms as internal waza (metaphysical concepts focused on the hara)
