Super Mario: 25 Things You Never Knew About The Game

It might be one of the biggest games of all time and the most famous title in the mustachioed man’s umbrella but there are a number of things that you might not know about the game - no matter how many times you’ve played it. The Plumber and his twin brother, Luigi, are global superstars and known across the world, but they have some pretty surprising and humble origins, with the main protagonist starting off a bit part character (and even one time antagonist), having to go through several re-designs and even having to battle a lawsuit just to get off the ground. But thankfully it made it through all the adversity and into a juggernaut of a video game, so we decided to look into some little known facts that might surprise you in this video.

We will take a look at the surprising inspiration behind the character, what the mustachioed man’s first job was, how it secretly took from some of the other biggest games around (including Legend of Zelda), what Yoshi’s real name is, how the original side scroller was nearly very different (and how it nearly involved some pretty heavy weapons and violence), the secret backstory and setup for the game, some cool cheats and features that you might not have known, the differences between limited editions, and just how much one of those bad boy’s goes for these days (the figures are eye watering). So let’s warp to the Mushroom Kingdom, travel through Bowser’s Castle and take a look at some awesome pieces of trivia.

What did you make of this video? Do you love the game? Any of these entries take you by surprise? Let us know in the comments below and make sure to subscribe to the channel today for all this and more!

Mario isn't killing toads when he breaks blocks, it's said in the manual, that when Mario breaks a block he frees the toad and they reward with a power up or coin.

I get that viewers with very less experience would not have known many of these facts, but if you have somewhat dealt into the lore of Mario, you'll know almost every fact already in this video.

Screen Rant: You are wrong about the year of Luigi, one year wrong to be precise, you see the year was 2013 when Luigi got a year of his own.

I'm an OG Gen X Super Mario fan that was an Associate Game Tester for Nintendo of America so seriously doubt there's anything in this video that I've never heard.

Nothing about toad giving the finger at the end of the castles in smb1? Once you've seen it you can't unsee it.

5:57 no it is stated that the bricks that toads are trapped in, are those which don’t break, the ones that turn brown. And then if Mario saves them, they reward Mario with a power up, however the koopa tribes make the Toad invisible but every brick that turns brown, every ? Block that is hit is Mario saving a poor soul

1:29 is why the Super Mario Bros movie isn't that bad. It's actually pretty accurate to the original concept.

You know how it's the mushroom kingdom? Yeah the mushrooms are the toads. The Japanese name basically means "Real Mushroom Boy", and mushrooms are seen as "cute" and often often personified in Japan. It was changed to toads in the west, and the story goes it's because of Princesses kissing frogs in some of our stories.

What he said in that interview was they are fungi, not mammals, and therefor asexual. No official word on being able to cut a toad in half and grow two toads.
