I have a 2010 Saab 9-3 XWD with Haldex Gen 4. Have not driven it in snow yet, but can’t wait to see how it responds. I just purchased the service kit, to change fluid and filter before winter. Never had cross wheel drive before!

Thanks for taking the time to explain this, my buddy's R32 has been making a whine on higher speed downshifting and spirited driving conditions, we're going to tear it apart and fix it but this helped in researching quite a bit.

You should consider doing another similar to this one on the new electronic differential installed in the MK7 Autobahn GTI. As far as I know this electronic component is new to VW and only placed in a few production cars at this time.
I worry about that part being the weak link as I buy parts to tune to beyond 300HP

Actually, it was Gen III that added the electric pump for precharging the accumulator. Gen III was as fast as Gen IV in reaction time to front wheel slip (15 degrees), and was proactive as well, not just using front wheel slip to activate the rear wheels. The difference between III and IV was that IV eliminated the mechanical pump, and used an electric pump exclusively, while III had both an electric pump and a mechanical pump.

Gen 5 Haldex engages the rear wheels on decel when in Sport mode, at least on DSG cars.

I have an 2007 octavia scout with a haldex awd system.

Its ideal for my needs. I'm happy with the fwd economy most of the time with the added security of awd when it snows or when I take it off road, which isn't as rare as it should be.

For me it's the best of both worlds. I get decent off road ability in a car and dont have to feel like a total bell end driving a 'proper' 4x4 all the time and have the woeful fuel economy that comes with it.

Don't forget about the P2 chassis Volvos that had Haldex, models included the S60 AWD, and R, V70 AWD, and R, S40 AWD, XC90 AWD, S80 AWD.

Loved the Torsen AWD in my Audi A4 B5 cars. Had to upgrade my Gen1 (?) Haldex in my 2004 Audi TT to the Blue controller to get any amount of driving satisfaction. Shoulda gone with the Orange controller at the time. Neither are available any more, but I still have my TT.
