The popular holiday area of Spain that stretches from north of Barcelona to the French border, is called the Costa Brava. It runs for over 200 kilometres along Spain's east coast.
The name "Costa Brava" (Wild Coast) probably derives from the rocky parts of the coastline. There are however also beautiful bays, in which the best known holiday resorts are located.
This is a musical picture of the region from the Chappell Recorded Music Library.
Composer Philip Buchel (1906-1994) is known for his work in film music, especially on Maytime in Mayfair (1949), Circle of Danger (1951) and They Met in the Dark (1943).
His light music credits include a piece he co-wrote with Robert Farnon called “Jockey On The Carousel”.
Co-incidentally, these two gentlemen are teamed up again on “Costa Brava” with Robert Farnon conducting the Queen's Hall Light Orchestra as they present this Philip Buchel composition from 1962. (C.742).
