Beckah Shae is no stranger to humble beginnings. She used music as a form of therapy growing up in a broken home. Her parents were divorced at an early age and Shae had to walk with her mom through two more toxic and abusive relationships. Beckah found herself in the throes of uncertainty, staying at times with family members, friends, battered woman shelters, and foster homes. Seeing much and having very little taught Shae to depend on and be grateful to God for everything. She now walks in complete freedom from the anxiety, bulimia, and depression that plagued her younger years. Shae has written the majority of everything she sings and transfers all of her emotions into her song writing. She says, "I have never written a song I didn't need, and I never sing a song I don't mean." In this interview with 100 Huntley Street's Crystal Lavallee, Beckah shares about a supernatural experience she had as a child.

I can still remember when Jesus came into my bedroom when I was crying after a day at school being bullied by the other students at school, because of my skin color. I was in the first grade in 1966-1967 school year. Later that day, when my mother came home from work, I asked her why the kids at school bullied me for my skin color and she couldn't give me a answer why. My mother divorced verbal abusive, alcoholic father a few months before school started. I always knew that I was different from my two siblings, because of my skin color and hair color, because of the Cherokee Indian that was in me and my two siblings have more a European look to them. I almost skipped your video and I am glad that I didn't skip your video, because you have a beautiful powerful voice and your a beautiful Alaskan Indian and your music is powerful and beautiful and it makes me to join you to beat my drum.

I love Beckahs voice & Awake is awesome. Jesus came to me in a hospital ER room when I was losing my 3rd baby. I was exhausted physically & emotionally from the pain. Plus, I wanted that baby so much. Jesus came to me in the room. He stood behind my earthly father. I couldn't actually see Him, but there was an aura in that corner. Suddenly, a calm came over me & He took away the pain, so I could get a few minute's rest before surgery. I wasn't sure if come out alive but praise Jesus, I'm still here.

Jesus came to my grandfather twice in his thirties. He said that there was so much love that if the building they were in would have fallen, it would have fallen down around them. :)
