Many learners of English assume that they should listen to the news to improve their English. But is this a good idea?
This is a clip from an upcoming podcast episode (766) with Stephen Devincenzi from the Simple English News Daily podcast.
The full episode will be released soon. Unfortunately, this is the only surviving bit of video from the recording!

I love BBC accent. And I normally hear news in my own language. Actually i like LEP because it sounds like BBC. I mean some one who put attention in an accurate pronuntiation and vocabulary.
Besides, news increase the range of thing you can talk about with native people.

All the roads lead to Rome. That what makes me confused when I lessen to the news. I mean they use a lot of structures and grammar and words with different ways. If I want to get what they are talking about I have to be focused on. Thanks teacher for your efforts.

For the beginning, listening to the news is a great step to learn english thoroughly, but when you feel your english gets a bit good you have to think to go to another ways like watching, reading just to brush up on it.

From my own experience listening to news at the very beginning was important cause people were speaking at a slow speed and that was beneficial to me, but i think students shouldn't hang just on News but expose themselves to others things as well.

At least you managed to record a few minutes of the video footage :)
Technology can indeed drive one
Thank you so much Stephen and Luke for what you are providing for us.
Cheers Daniel

I never early thought about listening or reading the news as a way to learn English. Rather I "was scared" of the idea because I thought the news definitely has complicated words 🙂 but when I read comments under this video I wanted to try this method of learning English ☺️ maybe it will be good for me, thank you for this episode ☺️

I listen to the BBC news every day before a sleep at least half an hour, and to some extent I agree with Luke. Sometimes, their language is so arduous and intricate for me that it makes me think that I know nothing. I relish their content, an opportunity to choose any topic I want to listen to, but if I could give them a small recommendation it would definitively be "speak slowly, please".

Good morning Luke,
now in SEND 7 podcast/web you have to pay to access to the translations (ops transcriptions, sorry Luke). I don't think it was a good choice...from my point of you in any case. Now i listen to him sometimes. Ok if someone works it is correct to be paid but with 7€ per month you can have more contents through podcasts/youtuber etc. Just my point of view.
