George has huge ego. Lucas, Tolkien and even Rowling dont have that. Especially two first I mentioned. Martin should be worring about his works not others. I think he is jelous that Game of Thrones and his books will never be that kind of popular story and phenomenon like Lord of the rings Both movies and books, Star Wars or Harry Potter both books and movies

honestly I think GRRM cheapens all the deaths because they happen too often. killing characters too often is the same as never killing a character. it just ruins any tension that may have built up, if the character can die at any point and probably will, why should I care or get invested in them.

I disagree. GRRM is looking at this through the glasses of a four decade old movie that he, like many of us, had probably seen many times. I distinctly remember the scene affecting me as a kid, taking in the callousness of the Empire, wondering how they could be willing to kill so many people, and the mysterious of obi-wan sensing the loss.

You don't always need to develop characters to be killed off to have a profound affect on viewers. They did the same with the First Order's elimination of an entire system, at most they showed the reactions of people about to be killed, still had a significant impact on me as an adult, mostly from the foreboding scene of the force laser shooting through space.
