I got married in January 2019. My wife came into the marriage with 119k students loan debt. I was debt free with 80k in the bank. When I suggested to her that we should use the 80k towards the loan she told me NO. Let's keep the 80k in the bank and work to pay it off together. We paid it off in a year.

If he has to ask he knows in his gut he’s gonna get played somewhere down the line.

Absolutely, pay off your wife's debt. Her boyfriend, her second husband and her parents will thank you.

Absolutely pay off your wife's student loans. Then when she divorces you her new husband or boyfriend will not be saddled with those loans and then they can have a happy life together, thanks to you.

As a woman, before getting married, I’d shave off my debt as much as possible. I wouldn’t feel right using my husband’s money to pay off my debt when he saved it on his own.

Wonder if she has a job that pays enough to justify the student loan debt.

He will be eating rice and beans when he loses his life savings and she divorces him.

I believe the debt that someone has before marriage should be there responsibility to pay if off but if we accumulated debt together when we was married that’s our debt.💍and any saving I accumulated before marriage is mine and saving we accumlated during marriage is ours.

My wife payed off my student loan debt with her savings. She saw i got serious about it, working 12 hours a day to pay it. It was weird at first but it shows that we are now combined in all ways.

Our vows didn’t have that line because we were both so broke that we didn’t have much to pledge to each other at the time we got married 😂

I hate how they never do a deep dive on whether the spouse is a bum, mooch, or is trying to pull an “okie doke”.

I'm a girl and I say no way! I have a son. Thinking of what I would tell him.

Don’t marry anyone with debt and no savings to pay it off themselves. Smh

I don’t think he has ever gone through the sanctimonious “unto thee all my worldly goods I pledge” speech when a woman calls in.

I wouldn’t want someone to pay my debt honestly.

I don't understand, why take out of his savings? Just work together to pay off that debt and the savings could be used as an emergency fund + down-payment on the house they want once the debt is gone. Why do people have to put themsleves in these kinds of situations.

He pays her debt and then she files for divorce. My prediction. Don't be stupid, guys.
