We recently saw the release of Vulkan 1.4 and almost immediately after that we saw implementations dropping from every GPU driver project, but especially for those within Mesa, within 2 hours 5 PRs were opened.

If you are a directX nerd and now living in linux-land, don't forget about dxvk-native. It is basically directx on linux.

If you didn't know, the Vulkan art are 3d test models that have just been around for awhile, you'll see on the Wikipedia page for "List of common 3D test models" the same models, so the art isn't just random animals because they felt like it. They are basically used pretty commonly for writing renderers with the addition of Sponza which isn't listed there probably because it's an entire scene.

maybe it’s not out till next year, but seeing this much internal enthusiasm about supporting linux is really exciting for the future. it seems like graphics engineers really care, which is only gonna pave the way for anything on top to become universal if it wants to. seems like an awesome milestone for linux’s future

Even on Windows, I've noticed that proper implication of Vulkan performs far better than anything DirectX.

Doom 2016 is like the golden star in that regard. Runs like butter on lower end PCs.

i'm just shocked how everyone seems to collectively forget how bad the hardware support fragmentation is becoming with vulkan dropping more and more devices every release, of course i'm glad vulkan is improving and expanding but its at a significant cost that didn't need to be taken.

Vulkan runs amazingly good, on Windows and on Linux already, can't wait for this to officially release, usually because there isn't any shader compile stuttering nonsense like DX11/12 has..
