This movie proves that we need more monster movies, not just ghost, demon, witchcraft or serial killer horror movies!

I really liked this movie! The one thing people don't realize is that in the beginning of the movie, the mom is the monster. And when she was faced with a real monster, she becomes the hero. Her growth throughout the movie is so well done. It made me cry because not too many moms who are *monsters* to their children ever get a chance to redeem themselves in real life.

This will forever be one of my favorite films. I cry every time. It deserves more than 80%!
To watch the mom grow from her toxicity, it’s truly moving. The film showing the growth of both characters and how you are more than the pain and suffering around you. The child walking into the field…….

This was actually a good movie. The performances were very good.
And the monster wasn't CGI which earns big points in my book.

The fact that they used practical effects for the creature absolutely left me amazed. You don't see that much these days.
Also, such rich, layered characters. And the back story gets you invested in the protagonist's survival because you want to see her and her mother's relationship flourish. Great film, in my book

A24 never disappoints. There's some deeper meaning between this mother and daughter for sure to make this a masterpiece.

My ass sitting here in 2020 watching this for the first time ever, wondering when it will be hitting theaters...and the last scene flashes (2016)... Ha! Lemme see if it's on Netflix.

SO Good! *If you LOVE a Good scary movie, you Cannot go wrong with this 1.* Not a single Jump Scare in this entire movie. They don't need em. Sitting in my kitchen - by myself - screaming at legit scares! Then I turned out the lights and it got worse/scarier/even better. Tons of wth moments! I immediately started trying to buy this after I watched it for free!! It's free just about everywhere right now.

Just watched this film today and thoroughly enjoyed both actresses and the story was a great traditional monster story. Well done give it a chance.

Since everyone seems obsessed w/ this movie, I just want to be the grounded reviewer and say that this is a DRAMA HORROR. 70% drama about a neglectful/abusive, alcoholic young mom & her daughter who deserves so much better. If you’re looking to be spooked and have a traditional horror experience with THRILLS & scares THIS IS NOT THE MOVIE FOR YOU. Better off watching Lights Out, Exorcism or Emily Rose, Evil Dead. If you’re looking for a VERY SLOW BURN horror with multi layer of drama and depth then this is a GREAT film for you.

Needless to say the movie excitement happens 40mins in. movie

What really sold me is the relationship between the Mother and her Daugther.
What i love about horror is that fear and the looming threat of danger allows us to delve in to these interactions and situations that forces our characters to change. And not just for some cheap scares
