Never underestimate my love of the "I found this kid and now theyre my responsibility and I'm a dad now" trope.

I'm digging the more serious tone and that the characters seem genuine. I also love that the male lead isn't portrayed as an idiot, but is legitimately skilled and caring.

I just watched this movie today, and I am ashamed to say... THAT I WANT A SECOND MOVIE! The world-building, the characters, the beast, AND THE TWO MAIN CHARACTERS JACOB AND MAISIE, HAVE STOLEN MY HEART. One of the best movies I've ever seen in the last few years. I would read an entire book series if they ever decided to do that, The Sea Beast is truly amazing.

This looks really, really cool. The main hero seems competent and the little girl is precocious and adorable. The monster hunting on the high seas could be really cool.

I love this movie already. Filled with lore, adventure, and a whole world of primordial creatures. Also, I swear, the big red beast looks like Toothless

I always thought we needed more pirates and sea creature stories... I'm so glad to finally see something like that!

This movie is far more mature than most other kids movie and it makes it a breath of fresh air. Don’t expect a huge amount of laughs but expect a movie that respects its story and characters

Must say this is one of the best movies I’ve watched. The two lead characters really grow on you! And it’s true that humans really destroy nature for their own benefit and greed! Love love love!

The little girl's hair looks great, the animators did a good job making it look natural

This movie was stunning. Best animated adventure I have seen in years. Netflix definitely has an Oscar coming its way for "Best Animated Feature" at next years Academy Awards.
It has one of the most precocious but adorable little lead ever ("I expect to speak to Captain Now and not Captain Someday/Maybe'" literally had me busting my gut from laughing so much) and I also loved that the big hero was not a bumbling idiot but a skilled warrior who actually cares about the world around him and the little charge he suddenly finds himself having to look after.

The Sea Beast was incredibly well written, gorgeously animated and shot (with action sequences to rival any live action film) with some incredible world building (I expect a part 2 pronto) and a lovely message to part the kids with about how heroes can also get things wrong and to question traditional hatreds because there is usually an agenda behind those beliefs. Biggest surprise film of the year for me. Well done Netflix more of this please!

This looks really genuine and fun. Been a long time since I felt that from a kid's movie. Also nice to see a competent adult male character in a new movie for once.

This could be a Disney production but it's actually a Netflix animated production, it really has the same vibes of Moana knowing that it's from the same creators, it needs to be a decent movie. Netflix animations really needs more support.

I really have to say it. This was one of the best movies I have seen. World building, story an the characters where phenomenal but what made it for me is its critical look on how history shapes our world. The whole world finds no easy answers to hard questions and I love that.
Only thing I would criticise is that the end feels a bit rushed. But maybe because I want a second movie with the main characters becoming montsterexplorers :)

A whole bunch of this is really good for me. I like the whole vibe the film is setting with it seeming alot more serious in tone, the leads both seem like good characters (not playing into the stereotypes you'd tend to get in an animated kids adventure film, like making the guy into a sexist moron).

I think my one issue is how cartoony the sea monster designs seem to be. They're all so smooth and undetailed. Even the ones that I feel were meant to be scary look kinda cute, the big yellow one is a good example. The fact the human designs are (fairly) detailed and realistic also makes this even more noticeable for me, like they don't fit at all. I get that it's a kids movie so they're never gonna make them absolutely horrifying, wound covered, monsters, but maybe something like how httyd animates dragons would have been nice? Dragons like toothless in those films manage to do a great job of looking cool and intimidating but also looking cute, meanwhile something like the red death in the first film is terrifying yet still keeps a somewhat cartoonish design.

this might be the best animated movie i've seen in YEARS. the animation was the first thing that drew me in; from the first moment of the clip on netflix i fell in love with the character design, setting, and frankly INSANE amount of detail that went into every single visual. the characters are SO incredibly well-written and *so* funny; i burst out laughing so many times, which isn't something a lot of movies get me to do. this movie was an absolute blast and i would recommend it endlessly to everyone i possibly can.
