My first boiler used too do this, come on get hot then when it reached a temp it would stay warm, the boiler would be about 40 years old now.

How much should I be paying for a controler and instelation, boiler is on the north wall

Great explanation, leaves me with a couple of questions though.
1. The middle of your wave shows the boiler coming on & off to maintain temp at very low modulation, but you said we shoukd limit the amount of times the gas valve opens?
2.i understand based on desired room temp it detects outside temp and adjust the flow to suit, but without an indoor thermostat, what tells the boiler its reached the required air temp?

We've a heat pump about a year and a half now. Our hall and bathroom are weather comp but the rest of the rooms are zoned. Great explanation at the end with that graph. So I would be better off having the whole house weather compensated then for comfort and cost effectiveness? I've a service man coming today to service our heat pump so I'm going to say it to him and to be honest, I'm fed up playing around with the curve and room stats. I'd just like to be able to leave it alone and let it do its own thing!

A weather compensator is the worst thing ever invented, it effectively makes my heating not work anymore when i want.
