The thing is, iit professors are great researchers, but that doesn't necessarily makes one a good teacher. I think I myself have found that to be true. Iit professors are so smart and clear with their concepts, that they can't really imagine conceptual hurdles a student might face. A good teacher has to think from the perception of a student. For any subject or topic, YouTube has the best "teachers" for you, better than any IIT.

Being a student of IISER, I can relate to it. Professors at premier institutes are great researchers but most of them are average (or not that passionate) in teaching.
Many times, some researchers working on advanced fields of the subject like a professor working on QIT, is supposed to teach elementary (+2 level) topics like Newtonian Mechanics or basic electrodynamics.
As a result, it's very common to see students watching YT lectures in a live class or just sleeping at lectures.

IITs are best not only because of awesome professors but because of equally awesome students who study there..the highly competitive exam ensures only the best out best students get admission and this really.makes all the difference...
