RISING TROUT and DEEP Water - Winter FLY FISHING the BOW RIVER at Fish Creek [CHINOOK | Dec 2020]

I continue my mission of winter fly fishing the Bow River at Fish Creek in Calgary Alberta to try to catch a trout. Again this weekend we had a mild Chinook with temperatures reaching up to 4C for a couple of days, and it had the Trout rising by 10AM in deep pools along the Bow River near Fish Creek. I tried a few rigs, had fish rising and breaching like crazy all around me, but no bites or action! In my hunt I also found out the trout appear to be circling a very deep trench in the middle of the river where I discovered it is unsafe and unfit for wader fishing, even for a 6'6" tall gentleman with very high waders... I blame the rising trout for trying to drown me. I will not relent. And I will not forget. I will discover your secrets, you sons of bitches.

You're in the right place ! Try using smaller nymphs, midges and san juan worms . In the winter I usually find them in deep holes. Like you said to get at them you have to swim or float. That's why I've never enjoyed the Bow much .

Keep at it, the Bow is a fickle beast. I consider myself an intermediate angler and the Bow bests me nearly all the time. I know it sucks to cast, but I would use an indicator. Without one (or without euro-style tight line nymphing) it will be really hard to detect a strike.

Looks like midges are on the menu, perhaps tie some little food instead of the big foods you were offering lol and don't you hate it when you get that deep when wading 💦💦
