I’m super confused because you have a lot of tattoos wouldn’t you have known how to take care of your tattoos by now

What tattoo artist would ever say to let your ink dry out? 🤔

Proper tattoo aftercare: wash gently. Apply a very THIN layer of ointment. (I personally use aquaphor and it works amazing for the healing process) the point of the ointment is so that the tattoo doesn’t scab too bad and get ripped off. When a scab gets ripped off it pulls the ink from the skin thus leaving your tattoo spotty and needing touch ups. You don’t want to overdo the ointment but you also don’t want to let it dry out too much either. Once it reaches the point of shedding/peeling kinda like a sun burn I switch to a good non scented lotion bc at that point it’s 80% healed.

As a person covered in tattoos here are some tips

1. Always choose an artist that works professionally in this business and has a lot of experience
2. Keep the area clean before tattooing
3. Dont drink alcohol before the session, it dilutea your blood and makes the job of a tattoo artist even harder.
4. In case you have any questions dont hesitate to ask your artist.

Aftercare:

1. Apply a thin layer of ointment a couple of times a day
2. Avoid exposing your tattoo to the sun
3. If sun cannot be avoided, apply thin-medium layer of strong sunscreen (if you are at the beach do it every 1-2 hours)
4. If the area is itching that means that its healing, avoid scratching it to much (if you really have the urge to scratch, do it, but very very gently)
5. Always keep the area clean to avoid any infection

Im not a doctor neither tattoo artist, just a tattoo enthusiast

Your "artist" is not a professional. You HAVE TO apply moisture to it when it's healing, especially when it's scabby. Stop letting your friends mark you up permanently with bs "tattoos"

NEVER LET ANY TATTOO DRY! Its a wound that should be taken care of‼️Always apply ointment 2 times a day for 2 to 3 weeks

It’s fine. It actually will heal faster if you dry it out. It a sore so it’s just healing. Wash it with antibacterial soap

You’re supposed to apply some sort of moisture barrier on it at the peeling point. I prefer A&d. The more consistently you can keep it moist the better it’ll heal. Which actually applies to most wounds :). Cheers!

I put native coconut oil on my new ones cause I tend to have rly dry skin but when it's healed I don't rly put anything on it except for sunscreen (my tats are on scars and still it doesn't need much care :3)

Dry healing is ok, SOMETIMES. If you're scabbing that bad, not only did the artist dig too much, but shouldnt dry heal in that scenario either. I mostly dry heal and mine look fine, but i do moisturize certain spots that are more scabby or damaged otherwise it doesnt heal properly.

The amount of people that don’t realise this is an ad.

You're supposed to keep it lightly moisturized once a day otherwise it will scab and split open if it's too dry.

You never let it dry out is what my tattoo artist told me. And honestly he has everyone he does a tattoo on use A&D Diaper rash ointment.

I have my entire left side of my chest and forearm with tattoos. I've never used any aftermarket tattoo healing gels or tattoo creams or anything expensive like that during tattoo recovery. For the first few days I was to keep my tattoo lightly wrapped in cling wrap when I sleep and to place a towel under me on my bed, the excess ink that causes scabbing and peeling would sweat out of my skin. I would wake up with a drenched arm full of sopping ink and I would only use a warm washcloth to clean it multiple times a day with no soap no scraping or wiping with the towel either. Just light dabbing with the hot cloth. Never had one of my tattoos even scab up. I would let the air at it during the day but I would lightly wrap it at night with the wrap. If I remember correctly though i would use just normal unscented sensitive skin moisturizer a couple times a day, but I can't fully remember.

Oh no that's gonna get splotches all over the place when that peels off. I recently use tegaderm/second skin for the first time on my newest piece (5th tattoo so far) and it was the simplest heal. Highly recommend .
