Jack should be under the LCA. I used a wood block to help grip the nubs. Use any leverage tool under tire to pry upward. Slight separation may be safe to drive on, but it is not recommended. New Lower Ball Joints don't separate at all.
This video shows a 1st Gen Tacoma with 1/8" + separation which is NOT SAFE to drive on. That is 2004 OEM LBJ with 200k miles.
Several 6 Lug Toyota vehicles are designed this way and complete failure at highway speeds can be catastrophic. Avoid LBJ failure on the road... CHECK THEM TODAY!
Contact Dealership to see if your vehicle qualifies for free LBJ replacement.
Use only OEM Replacement Parts.... If you are stranded near O'Reilly and need to get home, then go ahead and put a cheap LBJ on to get it home.... Then replace it again with OEM ASAP.
OEM Part numbers for 1st Gen Tacoma:
Right LBJ 43330-39556
Left LBJ 43340-39436
8 LBJ Bolts 90119-10933
14mm bolts @ 59 ft lbs torque
(also blue Loctite is recommended)
Castle Nut @ 105 ft lbs torque.
***The 5 Lug 2WD Tacoma has a completely different design***
