S3E6 Game of Thrones: Robb begins negotiating with the Freys

In order to get Walder Frey back on Robb Stark's side after he broke his promise to marry one of his daughters, Edmure Tully must take his place instead or there will be no Alliance between the Freys and the North.

Its funny and ironic that despite all of the crap that everyone gives him, Edmure is the one that's in the right here.

But in all honesty Robb, Catelyn and Brynden are being really hypocritical here... Brynden refused to marry for unknown reasons, Robb broke his oath and married Talisa, and what Catelyn said about Edmure endangering their lives for a prettier wife is exactly what Robb did...

You have to admit it was a brilliant plot. The Freys demanded a lot; if they didn't, Robb would get suspicious why.

Respect Edmure a lot, he put the interests of the kingdom and its people before his own (that's what a true king does), unlike Robb with Talisa

Poor Edmure. He's getting grief from his uncle who didn't speak to his own brother for years because he didn't want to enter an arranged marriage, and his nephew, who neglected his duty and married a chick he'd known for five seconds despite knowing full well that he was already betrothed? Robb and Brynden are a pair of bloody hypocrites. Still, at least the Frey girl was hot.

I’m with Edmure on this one. Robb’s the only one to blame here. The guy’s even agreeing to makeup for Robb’s missteps, and all he’s asking for is to pick and choose (which the Frey’s didn’t explicitly say he couldn’t, they probably just assumed he wanted the prettiest one, which is who they named anyways). They even said they were leaving in the morning, that was plenty of time to ask.

Hell, if he had asked them if he could pick his bride, they would have said yes instantly knowing he’d pick Rosaline anyways (or even if he didn’t, then he’d be picking someone they thought of as less value between Walder’s daughters/granddaughters and very much been inclined to say yes)

Edmure made an executive decision that was well within his right on the battle field because Robb never explicitly told him “I want them to follow you west”, all he said was “let them attack you”. What if he had “let them attack” his Tully forces and the Mountain had still fled to Harrenhal by way of the stone mill? They couldn’t have surrounded them with just Edmure’s splinter force until Robb arrived with his.

I wish we saw more interaction between Cat and Edmure in the show. A lot of people probably wouldn't have remembered they were brother and sister!
