January 2023 ASA Biopharmaceutical Section (BIOP) Software Engineering Working Group (SWE WG)

Our speaker is Daniel Sabanés Bové who is Senior Principal Data Scientist at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, where he leads a team building tools for statisticians to do better work. He is committed to growing open-source tools in pharma. Daniel shares the experiences of the ASA Biopharmaceutical Section (BIOP) Software Engineering Working Group (SWE WG) from how they came together as a group of more than 20 organizations so far, and what types of problems they are trying to solve in the Open Source for the Pharmaceutical industry. This session starts with describing the SWE WG, its motivations and purpose, and then digs into one of the packages that the group has created. The {mmrm} package will be demoed, they will discuss why they have to be careful with the development of packages, and why it's not "yet another package". They will describe their long-term perspective on software engineering in the Pharmaceutical industry. There will be plenty of time to answer questions about this new working group and the {mmrm} package.
