What does Cis mean?

The place I most often hear the prefix "Cis" outside of this stuff is in the word "Cislunar" as in "Cislunar space", the space in between the Earth and the Moon's orbit, contrasted with "Translunar space" which is beyond the Moon's orbit. Cislunar space is really important, it encompasses the Earth which we live on, and includes where most of our satellites are in orbits around the Earth including the Hubble Space Telescope, it's not boring at all. But Translunar space is much bigger and has a lot of potential for further exploration "Where no one has gone before", and includes more far-out exploration spacecraft like the JWST, New Horizons, Curiosity, Perseverance, and Voyager space probes. They're both awesome in different ways!

"cis" is essentially just a Latin prefix meaning "on this side". It can be used in a variety of contexts. For example in chemistry with cis platinum, which is a platinum complex used to treat cancer. Nobody is going to bully a cancer remedy because it is cis.

I've had arguments with people who say they're neither cis nor trans because they don't agree with those terms being applied to them. It was kind of funny because I'd ask them if they're cis, they'd say no, then I'd ask if they're trans, they'd say no, then I'd ask them if they're cis again.
