John Gibbons is a sports Osteopath and a lecturer for the 'Bodymaster Method ®' and in this video he is discussing the arthritis of the ccarpometacarpal joint of the thumb (trapezium & 1st metacarpal) and also OA of the PIP and DIPs of the fingers.

In the Functional Anatomy online course - You will learn:

Human anatomy is truly fascinating and is one of the reasons why I wanted to design a course specifically about this complex subject.

In my experience, student therapists struggle to learn the basic components of anatomy and this can be for many reasons. I wanted to design a course purely about functional anatomy and trust me, once enrolled, you will learn so much about the human body.

Author, osteopath and lecturer John Gibbons brings years of expertise and this will be demonstrated during this course. First he will teach you the theoretical components of anatomy; including the individual bones with associated bony landmarks, ligaments, nerves, muscles, tendons and movements for the major joints of the body. Once that has been understood, he takes you on a practical ‘journey’ of enlightenment through the visual presentations and interactions of using real life human anatomy.

On completion of the course you will have the underlying and fundamental anatomical knowledge necessary to identify and discuss the majority of the anatomical structures located within the human framework.

I hate it when professionals say from 50-60 years old. I'm 37 and have osteoarthritis all throughout my hands and it's completely ruined my life and I've had to give up my job as a nail tech. Life is unfair sometimes.

I've only recently developed arthritis in my dominant hand. As a massage therapist this is such a terrible blow to my career. The burning in the pip of my index finger is very unsettling. Already under doctor's care. Regardless, another great video JG. Time to binge watch em during my down time.

Where can I get my hands on that hand model? I've worked in hands for over 20 years and have not seen one like that anywhere! I know a lot of hand therapists, me included that would like to get one.

How do you treat the osteo arthritis thumbs and fingers?

I can’t seem to find anyone specifically mentioning whether or not the DYSFUNCTION of fingers from Heberdens nodes are permanent. Yes, I’ve heard several times at once they are done developing, they’re not as tender to the touch even though they are more pronounced in appearance. But – will I ever be able to learn how to work effectively and half my fingers move at least close to what they were before I started developing OE?
If the inability for precision is not going to get better after the pain subsides, that still changes my occupational outlook and what I should be thinking about for the future. It’s interesting to me that there don’t seem to be many testimonials or videos from people who are living with this condition if it’s so common - I probably need to look in more sources though.
Thank you for this upload!

Hello
Thank you for this thread, it's hard to find information about thumb pain and snapping & popping. I'm a guitar player and had surgery on my fretting hand 2/28/23 for trigger thumb, unfortunately the surgery didn't release the popping and snapping in my thumb. The pain is awful and my thumb joint must snap at least 50 times a day, and again is painful. I have a follow up with my surgeon in 2 weeks and he told me before surgery this may be arthritis and now I have to go in for more x rays and find the correct diagnosis for this condition. Do you think this is osteoarthritis ? I don't know much about this and have to do whatever to get back to playing my guitar and enjoying life with my children
Thank you

I have a habit of popping this joint because if I don’t then it feels stiff and painful. Is popping this joint safe or is it going to cause long term damage?

If someone were to present to you with early onset OA in the hands due to manual work, what would your osteopathic treatment & exercise programme entail?
