….. the more I learn about mixing the more I understand that the random shit I did when I first started was actually pro level moves 🤣

I love that a top mix engineer is just using the stock Pro Tools eq plugin on a superstars' vocal track, and getting a great result. Good to see!

30 years in the game and i never do complete notch. maybe 8 or 12db max.
You are right, there's no rule and it sounded perfect the way you fixed it.
Appreciate a lot, subscribing.

It doesn’t look like a drastic move. It is a drastic move.

finally. I always wanted to know how the vocals are good but dirty a bit but just turned out to be a sharp eq

Had some engineer confused when I did this, it's called subtractive EQ

this what i love about music, you can do whatever you want. so much creative freedom. just do you what you think sounds good.

The most valuable rule to learn about mixing, is that there are no rules to mixing.

Learn what your tools do. Learn how they affect your signal, learn what combos of them do and in what order, how they affect one another and learn to eyeball a waveform. Apart from training your ears to know what youre hearing, if you do those things youre pretty solid. With practice it becomes much easier

all that matters is that it sounds good

Mixing is all about knowing what does what for what situation and applying it over and over and over again. But remember if you can get a very good recording you won’t have to do much

My fav is when you get to use this effect to remove not so favorable frequencies from the mics overall sound.

I love to messing around with eq presets, and rondom crazy curve happens to make my vocal sounds nice. That's how I mix

Definitely saw you do this before and I’ve adopted it since

It’s the monitors he uses guys. Not the only thing but def plays a big part 📕 on how no top engineer stresses that

make sure to have a linear phase eq which most arent, so you may just cause phase issues

This has to be the most common beginner mistake. Being afraid to make “extreme” moves. I wouldn’t say I’m a beginner anymore but I still have to remind myself all the time to worry about what it looks like and just listen.
