OK Guys, get ready to snicker. I'm a 'young' 77-year-old Disabled American Veteran (Vietnam)and a real "newbie" when it comes to RC Vehicles since this is the first one I've ever had! I bought it for myself as a Christman present, and now my daughter, and two granddaughters, think I've lost my mind. All I can say to that is "Maybe so"!

Having introduced myself, and subscribed to your channel here so as to learn as much as I can about my new 'hobby'. One thing I was really happy to hear you say was your comment about it being a little too fast and your comment about the turning radius. Although I've only been able to take it outside once since it's Winter here, I first thought Whoa; will I ever gain full control over this? I mean this thing, with the slightest touch of the forward/backward switch takes off like a scared deer! Because of that, I was very successful in immediately into the neighbor's flower garden mulch. Well, that served as a baptism both to me and the Humvee.

Of course, at my advancing age, something this new is a challenge to one's brain. After that first trial run I was a little discouraged and brought it in, cleaned it up a bit, and told myself that as soon as Spring rolls around (it's now mid-January) I'm going to take it over to the Church parking lot, where it will actually be difficult even for me to damage, and practice, practice, practice. I've checked out several of the videos on here regarding this model and discovered, not at all to my surprise, that the vast majority of owners of this little gem are 20-somethings. That's OK since I can learn some of the new thoughts about it, just as I did from you here.

My model is the Tan color and I don't intend to do anything to it since I know for certain as soon as I attempted to disassemble even a small part of it, I'd never be able to put it back together; don't get me wrong, I'm not beginning to get senile, it's just that some of my 'experiences' in combat have left me with quite a bit of nerve damage and the result of that is it has killed a couple of brain cells! Ha!

OK, I've subbed your channel and will follow your progress on this, hoping to pick up a few tips along the way. Thanks for your uploaded video; and I'm looking forward also to see if anyone reaches out to me with suggestions. At this stage of my experience, any suggestion would be helpful...
Best,
D.O'D.
PS I'm also looking forward to the customizing that you said you were going to be doing. Admittedly, I'm writing this comment in the middle of January 2020 so you may well have already begun (or finished)!

Mid 80s also it is very accurate in replication. The weapon on the ring Mount (turret) is an MK 19 40mm grenade launcher and the one next to the battery box is an M2 .50 cal machine gun with tri pod mount. The detail is off the charts with this one.

You should sell it to ChrisFix after you're done. Bring some of his 5.5 mil subs over to SBG.

Im so glad your building this, I spent alot of time on these and really want to add it to my collection too, I find this to be extremely accurate especially compared to previously available parts I couldnt even build my own without access to a machine shop.

Nearly lived in one of those during desert Storm. We where a scout unit until they found that the Bradley's and Abrams where so much faster and their transmissions didn't blow up

Can't wait to see the weathering process you use. My sons (6&8) always look forward to your videos. We all have trx 4's. I wanna make my bronco look as though it was sitting in a field and pulled out and brought back to life.

The RC4WD black HUMVEE bead locks with Axial BFG Baja Terrain tires on it or Goodyear MT-R’s. Haven driven one more times than I can count... that’s what tires were on the truck. 24 bolt bead lock rims. Weathering will give it great contrast. If you were to buy a military version from a government liquidator that sell's them, they’re stripped of the doors, chassis bomb plates, roof, and variant model pieces. As the windshield and complete doors are bulletproof.... and the gov is not selling those pieces to the public for obvious reasons. Lower gearing and good suspension

Of all the people with this truck, I look forward to your videos on it more than any other. I'm looking forward to seeing how you are going to weather it and I'm pretty sure that your running videos are going to convince me to lay out the cash and buy the thing. DAMN YOU!!!!

Been meaning to say how I appreciate listing your camera, lenses, mics, even your screwdriver. Apologies for being off topic.

The only times I've ever seen ex-military, now civilian Humvees were when they were owned by energy drink companies or military themed exercise studios and brought around as their show vehicles or when Fred and Dave got one on Dirt Every Day. So maybe making a fake SBG energy drink is a solid idea.

I have a real M998 HMMWV Humvee and I've wanted a body to replicate it for an RC model. Probably on a TRX4. This thing is awesome dude!

Matt,
I retired from the Navy and I was a Seabee. I have driven many Humvees. Since you painted it Desert Tan, are you going to up armor the doors also? just google Seabee Humvee to find great pictures for inspiration. As far as the model.. it's true to life, noisy, and sounds like it can not change gears running from a dead stop. the suspension travel is non existent and visibility from the driver seat is horrible. The frame actually is black and what you did to turn it Desert Tan is more accurate than the green version. I would run a Spektrum Radio and a Holmes Hobby revolver motor with Castle Mamba X ESC. The Brushless ESC and Motor I mentioned make a lot of noise and that would compliment the model in its representation of the real one.

I replaced all the visible screws in this truck with scale hardware from Lockeduprc and it looks so much better. Mine has the doors removed, the battery moved under the hood and put a bunch of scale accessories in back to hide the holes. It drives so scale! Love it. : ) I hope you enjoy it too.

Looking forward to seeing what you do to this truck!!!

I'm wishing you would follow up with this RC. I just purchased and am eager to see what you did. Adding a smoke unit & Warn winch is high on the priority. I've already watched another Youtuber botch a motor/servo upgrade and would be eager to see your expertise on it.

Really looking forward to this build! Something different from the "regular" RC trucks

6:00 not really, it only dose about 12kph in top gear (seems about right for a scale speed) and you can also make it go slower with use of the proportional throttle, also dont forget it is a scale truck not a crawler, its ok if it dose over 1kph

All our HMMWVs were having there headlights changed over to LEDs of exactly that colour so they are more realistic than you implied.
