why would you pay 2000 dollars a month when a month later an open source model will come out, that is free and does basically the same thing?

As someone who worked at a senior level in both the corporate sector and government for decades, I will tell you right now that I don't think there is any chance the US government will allow regular citizens to access anything that resembles "AGI." I wouldn't get your hopes up. This is why OpenAI has added a former NSA head and has been interfacing with the NSA. They know they need to play ball with the US government, or the government will shut them down and take their tech. AGI poses a national security concern and it is inconceivable that the government will allow citizens to access such powerful tech.

The point for the $2000 subscription I believe is that it won't actually be any (or at least much) more powerful than a single user buying it, rather the benefit for the $2000 tier would be that $20 (or whatever it ends up being) gets you a one-account subscription, while $2000 unlocks it company-wide for you to share with your employees or something similar.

It cant be 2000$ /mo because thats like more than average salary of a software engineer in alot of countries, if AI is price more than a human engineer, everyone will hire a engineer rather than AI subscription

Interesting on Strawberry. I've noticed for several days that ChatGPT pauses for several seconds (as little as 5, up to maybe 20) before answering. I've wondered if this is some reasoning and thinking before answering being quietly rolled out.

Altman hyped up GPT-5 for close to a year now. If strawberry is just a small incremental improvement, even if it is not GPT-5, the AI hype train will crash. So, the smartest thing they could do is delay delay delay and hope someone discovers a new tech or new algorithm to improve the LLMs.
