What do you think? Truck camper or camper van? We always say, there is no perfect rig. Or is there?

Excellent points. Most of the advantages of a truck camper are the same for trailers. The biggest pro to camper vans is being able to drive away without going outside.

I absolutely loved my truck camper. Having the bed over the cab made it feel so much more spacious compared to my van. Although I bought it with the thought I would separate the camper from the truck, I never actually did in all the years I owned it. If it weren't for my health issues and the need for a vehicle without constant stair climbing, I would have kept the truck camper.

The biggest advantage of the van for me is the ability to move from the front to the back without stepping outside. My wife doesn't come along on my trips. If she did, I would get a small trailer for her to stay in, so she wouldn't be disturbed when I get up early or stay out late for photography.

If I were living in my vehicle full-time I may consider a truck & Camper, I would appreciate the flexibility of being able to detach the camper from the truck in case the truck needed major repairs.

If you want a truck camper that does not leak (as bad) look at Northern Lite or Bigfoot.

This is a good channel. Low view count is really surprising. Keep up the good work.

Many points you mentioned are the reason im heavily leaning towards a truck camper.
Some other reasons are:
- better off-road capability of a truck. No van has true 4x4 capabilities. Its just not made for that, and when you’re in difficult terrain and the wheels block bc the electronics suck you can be in huge trouble.Even if you don’t want to do crazy offroading, with a truck you can easily stand on a beach without getting stuck. And you have more ground clearance.
- longetivity: a good truck camper will outlive several cars if maintained well.
- better insulation: with a van you live in a metal box, vs a camper with a specific outer shell designed for the purpose of living in it.

I'm currently attempting to decide between a van, trailer, or truck camper. It's so hard!

Separating the TC from truck is nice - only if it is important to you
4*4 is nice - only if it is important to you
So it is ALL relative & YMMV. Your dime...

I had a TC on a 4*4 f250. ( over a 1.5 years I slept in it for 30 days total - so I gave it a chance to prove itself)
I now have a self built Transit van 250 for the last 7 years (I slept in it for 25 months to date- so NOT full time - not interested in full time only 3-5 month adventures) & I continue to modify and tweak it to make it just a little bit better - With Great results and it make me like it better.

I hated the TC - 2 stars
👍I love the Van - 9 stars👍

Yes, truck camper has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.

One advantage to a campervan is the ability to tow a trailer as well, so you could bring a spare car/motorcycle with you.

Class B motorhomes can be had for <$100K, brand new with bathroom, so they belong in the conversation too. All that said, my current dreams are for a 4x4 truck with camper. :)

Hi do you always have to have the camper on the bed of the truck or can you put it on a base when you're at home

You drive what you need, , or what you like, , I love my van, , I'll never trade it for a pickup, , Also some city's don't allowed campers, they are considered a motorhome, , in Huntington Beach California is a 275 dll ticket, ,

Is it safe to be in it when it's not on the truck

Nice video but I kept getting distracted by the fact she looks like Summer Glau. Now I wants a road trip with Terminator Cameron.

WoW, 8mpg, nearly fell over :) We get close to 40 UK mpg in our Fiat Ducato based MH with 9 speed auto gearbox. I do like the Truck Camper concept, but then would it make sense to have a caravan?

As soon as she compared the cost of a professionally built out van to a new truck camper she lost me. The truck camper needs a truck! What does that cost? $75, 000? Now the cost of these 2 different "homes" isn't so different. Vans are so popular because they get good gas mileage. If you can live with 8 MPG then get a school bus for even more room to move than a truck camper.
