7 Reasons We Bought a Truck Camper VS. A Van

1. COST: We paid way less for our truck & truck camper than what a van would have cost us for all the amenities and features we wanted. This allowed us to not have to save as much money and buy our truck and camper with cash so we didn’t have to have payments

2. OFF-ROAD ABILITY: Our truck is a 2500 HD with high clearance and a 4x4 making it much easier to get around on more difficult roads, especially since we prefer to dispersed camp.

3. TRUCK MAINTENANCE: Chevy parts are everywhere. If we ever have an issue with our tuck – most any mechanic shop will be able to work on our truck.

4. KING BED & FULL BATH: We have almost a King-Sized Bed in our camper (which we are used to sleeping in) and a complete shower and toilet system – that were important to us

5. TRUCK COMFORT & STORAGE: Long road trips are way more comfortable in a truck plus we have an entire extended cab that gives us tons of storage space.

6. BUILD: We didn’t have to build out our camper ourselves as we didn’t have the time or energy to take on such a big project.

7. DETACHABLE: We can easily take our camper off when not using it and still have a truck for everyday use

We completely understand that both truck campers and vans have their pros & cons – everyone has their own “tastes” of what they are looking for.

Overall, we couldn’t be happier with our truck and camper set up and can’t wait for many more fun road trip adventures with it.

Let me know if you have any questions.

truck campers are a great option, but they are wildly overpriced for some reason. i went with a travel trailer

$180, 000 for a van with two seats and a ‘living area’ that you can’t stand up in a truck and Cabover that cost a total of $80, 000 with an actual kitchen and bed and bathroom and room to fit five adults. The choice is so clear but so many van lifers really can’t understand that.

The huge bed and the fact you have a bathroom with shower are luxuries many vans dont even have i love this.❤

i loved my van(s). got them for cheap, rode them to the ground. shared epic times with friends. Now that im older (and have way more money), what a van offers is no longer enough. The over the cab/loft bed opens up the space so much more, plus i don't have to build anything out lol. I'm shopping for my first truck camper now!

Don’t forget your up graded suspension you need to do before purchasing a truck camper like air backs add a leaf and sway bar

King sized bed shown but turning over or getting up in the morning have to slide out of the bed so not to hit your head

Great video, plus you can always tell a cargo trailer or travel trailer behind it if you need more room. Having a cargo trailer allows you to live full-time on the road and store stuff that you just need seasonally, also makes a great place for bicycles motorcycles surfboards etc.

Hopefully when the camper part is off of the truck and freestanding that it’s stable enough to actually stay in it. For example if your truck needs to be worked on for a few days, to be able to still have your lodging

Spot on! TC's provide great flexibility. We enjoy it! Especially when oil changes are due - we can offload in parking lot at Walmart. Wife waits comfortably inside while I deal with waiting & watching work.

The van makes a better camper but if you’re a part time overlander. The truck camper being removed makes for a much more usable vehicle the majority of the time.
