Elizabeth Stuart (1596-1662) was the oldest daughter of King James of England and Anne of Denmark and their only daughter to have reached adulthood.
Elizabeth kicks off our #short biographies on the Queens and Princess of Stuart England.
We chose Elizabeth instead of Anne of Denmark as the grandson of Elizabeth Stuart became George I and founded the House of Hanover in England.
She was born as the princess of Scotland and moved to England at seven after the death of the last Tudor monarch, Elizabeth I.
She married Frederick V, the Elector of Palatine, and they were crowned King and Queen of Bohemia in November 1619 by the Bohemian rebels against the Habsburgs.
Their reign ended a year later at the defeat during the Battle of White Mountain, which secured three hundred years of Habsburg rule in Bohemia.
Elizabeth’s daughter, Sophia of Hanover, was designated Queen of England after Queen Anne died. However, she died before being crowned, and her son became George I of England.

Elizabeth was the daughter of James I. She was also crowned by the people of Prague as the Queen of Bohemia, although it only lasted one year. She also worked hard to position her children and grandchildren firmly. She was beautiful, intelligent and very persuasive.

She was a granddaughter of Mary Queen of Scots and lived a lavish life as a Princess of England before being married off to the Palatinate. She was then exiled and relied on money given by supporters. Her daughter Sophia of Hanover gave birth to the future of Great Britain when the Male Staurt line became extinct
