In this video we are sharing with you how to setup the Omada TP-link VPN gigabit router the ER605 that can either work as a standalone router or being part of a Software Defined Network (SDN) by using the Omada Network controller.

In this opportunity this router is gonna be replacing a Unifi Dream Machine to see how reliable it also is. Let’s remember it is a big challenge to be compared with such router, as we have proven Unifi gateways to be very reliable, stable and powerful.

I bought a refurbished one recently. I am using it as a backbone router for my home network. There is a v2 version now, it used 3G/4G dongle for backup WAN. But I do not thinking it is useful to many people, unless you are using it for a motor home.

Oh man. this router is soooo good, from my constant speed tests I can get my max ISP speed + 100+Mbps, while it operated at a very, very cool temperature. This never happened for my previous DLINK wireless ones. The only thing which is not perfect is: this TPLink only has max port speed at 1Gbps. So it would not be able to perfectly handle xfinity 1.2Gbps plan. I would like to pay more for a 2.5Gbps or a 10Gbps version, possibly with SFP+ ports.

I have two ER605 routers connected via a client-site L2TP VPN connection. The L2TP client has no problem connecting to the L2TP server in the remote router, but the problem is that if the VPN connection drops, the client will connect to my local internet connection and will reveal my local internet IP address. The ER605 does not have a kill switch (network lock) and, for that reason, I need help to create a kill switch on the client side so that the internet does not work if the VPN connection fails. Please let me know if there is a way to create a kill switch using routing policies or firewall rules to prevent my devices from connecting to my local internet connection if the VPN connection fails.

How do I wire my ER605 if my ISP modem is an All in One Type? Do I plug the Lan Cable to the Wan port or do I plug it into the Lan port?
