This is so true. The last time I took cocaine I had two small lines and went fully psychotic, I dismantled the dashboard on my car looking for a tracking device, I also destroyed every electronic device in my house for the same reason. Mad ting.

Very true. I certainly can't speak for anyone else, but stimulants like nicotine and caffeine are not good for me and maintaining a balanced mood

This is absolutely true. What's crazy is having someone prescribe stimulants to someone you love that has bipolar 1. Good luck getting someone to stop with this combo. It's a heartbreaking combination. Thank you for bringing this up.

I've got bipolar disorder and adhd. And thankfully I'm able to tolerate treatment for both. Non-stimulant adhd meds didn't seem to help much. So I'm glad I can take the focalin that I am perscribed. I'm also on an antipsychotic and antidepressants. It has taken a lot of trial and error to get my med combo just right. And I tend to spend way more time in depression than mania. I started with lithium for the bipolar disorder. But it caused issues with fluid and salt. So I couldn't stay on it. It worked pretty well though. Then I ran the gambit of antipsychotics. And am on latuda now. Which has worked the best for me without leaving me entirely drained of energy. I'm also on duoloxotine and buproprion for the depression. The buproprion was added during my winter depression. And my med combo has kept me pretty steady and stable. I still have some depression and hypomania from time to time. But it's managable. I also take suppliments like cod liver oil and NAC. And I try to get in regular exercise.

I think that the use of stimulants with antipsychotics needs to be studied more for those of us with both adhd and bipolar disorder. I mean, I feel like I drive better/safer while on my stimulant medication. And I know us adhd'rs are more likely to get into accidents while unmedicated.
I feel that it is important for us to be able to have the full range of our mental health disorders treated.

I have type 2 I can’t take anti depression meds without a mood stabilizer anti psych side effects are so bad. I’ve got adhd and type 2 and take 60mgs of Adderall a day. But it’s taken years and years to get on a combination that’s therapeutic

Bipolar depression thats treated with mood stabilizers can sometimes handle antidepressants or stimulants. I can handle low dose.

Dang this makes a lot of sense, I get a mixed manic high from drinking lots of caffeine, but then it get depressed. Also if I smoke sativa weed I get super jittery and amped up.

dr. Russell Barkley and Dr. William Dodson say it this os not totally true. You may want to address first BPD and then adhd meds but many are really ok with both
