A Dungeon as we know it is a room in a castle linked with torture and the suffering or punishment of a prisoner who finds themselves in one. However what is the history behind these infamous structures found within a castle's walls? Today we visit the story behind them. We look back into Medieval history and look at some famous examples such as The Tower of London, and some famous cases of prisoners housed in a dungeon. Throughout this video we also look at whether torture was used in dungeons, what sort of torture methods a prisoner could expect and also if they are still used today.

I love the lack of music. It helps to stay in the reality of the depravity of humans. Thank you!

wow seeing the drawings and etchings on the walls is so surreal, to think that they were probably some of the last things those prisoners done before death is crazy.

I had a dream that I was in an oubliette when I was younger. For some reason it felt really real. Maybe that’s one of those past life things.

"The word dungeon is derived from the French word Dunge-Eon, which translates to [dungeon]"

Love this bit of historical architecture. Been having a bit of curiosity with dungeons. Lovely presentation and video.

It would seem the dungeon would have to be about the first part of the castle that was built. Almost as if there were expecting to torture people there.. So the dungeon is the heart of the castle...🤢

How many castles actually had dungeons to torture prisoners? It's pretty messed up so many people had to go through this treatment for the amusement of sick bastards.

Dungeons were not pleasant, but the oubliettes are the absolute worst.

Sir Walter Raleigh’s prison “cell” in the Tower was a well appointed room, with windows, candles and a writing desk.

Can anyone attest if the alternative wax museum "The London Dungeon" in London, England is still open? Went in 1983. FANTASTIC 💀😈

I had not looked into dungeons before I'm glad I found this video describing what they were used for. Interesting that some of the drawings found on the walls were about religion.
