As a 36 year old man having grown up in Conwy, I'm still mesmerised each and every time I look up at the Castle, as beautiful as many of the other Castles across the Country are.. none are quite as magical as Conwy Castle

This is like, the MOST "castly" looking castle I've seen in real life, LOVE the aesthetic!!!

A pure on Earth. As a man who fully understands drainage and ventilation. At any time of year, the stench from faeces and rotting human remains would have found it's way, through every part of the castle; including the upper royal chambers... only through continued exposure would the residents be able to tolerate this. Today, any person who entered; would likely vomit instantly. I am fairly sure, with correct weather conditions; the smell would have been detected outside... I don't think we can truely imagine the horror of such a place.

That is absolutely disgusting... a toilet!? Just looking down into there from the top gives me chills. Makes me wonder if those upper apartments would have smelled like a pit toilet in the summer since all the waste is trapped underneath. Awesome video! Such a beautiful castle.

The very worst type of dungeon is an oubliette. Where prisoners were thrown or dropped into a cold, dark and sometimes partly flooded cell, and literally forgotten about. Oublier from Norman French - To forget. IIRC, the oubliette was used for condemned Welsh prisoners. Condemned English prisoners were hanged.

This was most definitely used as a storage room only, and there was most likely a wooden stairway down there. The opening was for airflow and the air would circulate through the staircase. But it's an awesome castle for sure!

It's probably a water catching well and that thing you call a toilet sluice is where rainwater was directed into the well just a thought you can't be sure and neither can I all the toilet sluices I have seen in castles are directed to the outside wall

Most castles had places like this, there's one in Warwick castle.

That is most likely a 'midden' where human and animal excrement, food waste and wood ash was thrown and then every now and then some poor fellows had to dig it all out and spread it onto fields. Middens were commonly used up until the 1930s.

That’s one of the most interesting complete castles I’ve ever seen. Great video. Impressive architecture.

The oubliette at Warwick castle is so small you would have to curl up to fit inside. It's got an iron hatch that would be locked above your head. It also has the toilet waste go through it with no room to avoid the waste.
