Zidoo is back in the spotlight and this latest model is a force to reckon with. Let's hope that this was not just a one-off and they release more high-end models adding much-needed competition on the market.

Hi Nicholas. Thank you for this. I will share it with the IPTV discord channel I'm on (as I did with your Ugoos SK1 review, which garnered a lot of conversation which I moderated, since I'm always a huge fan of Ugoos) 😅

Your rankings placement for this was spot on! For one thing, this model requires too much "extra work" and items that don't come integrated: Special ROM for Google PlayStore & Services; Special tool to gain developer access; Special tool for root access; Sideloading (which can be a huge upkeep pain), etc.

And it's not just the extra up-front work, but each of those will need to be manually updated on an ongoing basis.

Also, it's settings interface is super proprietary, which you must learn. Also, UI not customizable.

On the other hand, I understand that given the nice remote. (I hope Ugoos improves theirs too, even though I don't use it, and instead use a keyboard with an integrated trackball mouse).

In summary, ROM design is as important as the Hardware, and I think that was a miss with this offering. If they work on that, that will be great. Competition is good. 😊

Hi Nick, enjoyed the review as always.
Looks a nice box, I like the Zidoo menu, it's a challenge to use at first but once you get used to it's good.
But I won't be buying this or any other Zidoo box again, last one I had they never did solve the Google play services issue, they tried a couple of updates that failed & then support just ignored the problem. Box ended up in the bin, a real pity as on the odd occasion it did work the potential was obvious.

At around the 20-minute mark, you indicated that you can play YouTube videos in 4K, but since this is an 8K player; why doesn't it play YouTube videos up to 8K HDR?

I'm not a Netflix fan (in fact, I don't have any streaming services), but I find it weird that a lot of boxes don't go the extra mile and get a Netflix ESN. It seems to me that if I'm going to drop a large amount of money on an Android box, I want it to at least support 4k. This is one of the reasons why I went for an Nvidia Shield Pro.

UGOOS has always been my go to for customization but zidoo is giving them a serious run for the money..impressive..I do have a question...getting Google play installed one would have to use the firmware on their will that version be getting updates after installation ..and if yes will one have to go each time to the website to obtain it...
