Nice, typical, NY Times. What you forgot is that if you had this 468 triple in block 1 due to these digits pointing from the lower row of block 3, you also had the same 468 triple in row 1 columns 3, 4 and 5 (knowing as you did that column 2 in block 1 was already occupied by the upper portion of the 159 triple - in fact, r1c2 was a 59) So now you have 7 in r2c5 and in r1c8. The rest of the puzzle goes quite easily from there.

I decided to try something different today by starting at your time of 13 mins before your pencil marks and then trying to solve without pencil marks. R1 C2 and C7 gave a pair and therefore R1 C7 is a 7. After that t solved itself in 6 mins.
