The Icelandic house on Ellidaey Island is just a private property of an old guy who built this for his family, was suppose to be for him and his wife, after she died he said no other females are allowed in but is open for his family. I actually worked with the grand-son of this house owner when i was living in Iceland.

The hardy souls who lived on Goat Island in the middle of Sydney Harbour take the cake for mine. At one stage they chained a convict to a large rock and left him there to endure storms and biting cold winds. Such misery in the middle of world famous scenery.
