Saeed Anwar, born on September 6, 1968, is celebrated as one of Pakistan's greatest opening batsmen, known for his ability to dismantle bowling attacks with an elegance that bordered on the sublime. His career is a testament to his extraordinary talent and enduring legacy in the cricketing world.

Career Highlights:
Test Matches: Anwar scored 4,052 runs in 55 Tests, averaging 45.52, with 11 centuries.

One Day Internationals (ODIs): In 247 matches, he amassed 8,824 runs at an average of 39.21, including 20 centuries.

Anwar's highest individual score of 194 in ODIs against India in 1997 remained a record for 13 years, underscoring his dominance in the limited-overs format. His prowess as an opener placed him alongside legends like Hanif Mohammad and Majid Khan in the annals of Pakistan cricket.

Batting Style and Technique:
At the crease, Anwar was a sight to behold, combining exquisite timing with fluid, free-flowing strokes. His technique was characterized by:

Silken Grace: The full swing of his bat from back-lift to follow-through was a display of visual poetry.

Wrist Work: His ability to use his wrists to thread the ball through fielders was nothing short of magical. The flick off the pads, in particular, was a hallmark of his play, often sending the ball soaring over the mid-wicket boundary.

Hand-Eye Coordination: His coordination allowed him to execute shots away from the body with minimal risk.

Footwork Against Spin: Nimble on his feet, Anwar would dance down the pitch to spinners, striking the ball with ease and precision.
Impact and Legacy:

Anwar's batting was not just about accumulating runs but about the artistry of cricket. His serene demeanor and graceful stroke play turned even the most ardent opposition supporters into admirers. Watching Anwar in full flow was an experience that transcended team loyalties, as fans appreciated the sheer beauty of his batting.

Off the Field:
Anwar's life beyond the boundary was equally compelling. He dedicated himself to spreading religious teachings and expressed a willingness to serve Pakistani cricket in various capacities. Despite being offered the role of chief selector in 2010, he declined, focusing instead on his spiritual and personal pursuits.

Fielding and Leadership:
While Anwar's batting was impeccable, his fielding and leadership were less distinguished. He was not a natural athlete in the field and often needed to be positioned strategically to minimize exposure. The captaincy, too, was not his forte; he excelled when he could focus solely on his batting.

Conclusion:
Saeed Anwar's career is a rich tapestry of breathtaking innings and moments of pure cricketing brilliance. His contributions to Pakistan cricket are immeasurable, not only in terms of runs scored but also in the joy and inspiration he provided to countless fans. His legacy as one of the most pleasing batsmen to watch will endure, forever etched in the history of the sport.

Saeed Anwar sahab was my most favourite batsman when I started watching cricket. His silken elegance and sustained attacking batting was beautiful to watch. He was a nightmare to bowl to, especially for us Indians. I have always wondered that a dream opening partnership of Mark Waugh and Saeed Anwar would have been a dream match made in heaven. We rarely get to see sedately elegant batting craftsmen like them anymore. 🍀❤

I have seen him practicing in nets, use to copy him being a left-hander... I rate him above Sachin and Lara with all due respect!!! Only true cricketers understand how he play all over the ground effortlessly... Pure timing, If I was Srinath I would have taken retirement only because of this legend. Srinath is in media and Anwar is lost somewhere, But a true legend do his job and retires :)
