Only two people in the entire world can recite this speech to perfection. One of them is James Earl Jones, the other is Vin Scully.

With the news of his passing, it was only fitting to watch this video again. The voice of an angel now belongs with the angels.

The line from Moneyball would also go with this footage. "We're all told we cant play the children's game anymore...Some of us are told at 18 and others at 40 but we're all told"....

Vin Scully is a national treasure. I can still remember hearing him for the first time broadcasting a Dodger game on KABC while driving home on the L.A. freeways. I thought of myself as a Braves fan- a holdout from the Milwaukee Braves days, and the team of my childhood. As I listened to Vin Scully, I realized I was listening to someone and something very special. It didn't matter when I turned on the game, Vinny had me back in the game in 3 minutes. One evening, I went to Dodger Stadium for the first time with a large group of people. We had nose bleed seats looking down at beautiful Dodger Stadium and the Dodgers were playing the Atlanta Braves. The stadium was sold out as usual, and there seem to be a polite and appreciative crowd enjoying Dodger Baseball. There was also the familiar sound of Vin Scully calling the game. I thought it was sort of nice that the Dodgers broadcast the game for everyone to hear. I was informed by a very nice person that that wasn't the public address system, that was 35, 000 radios tuned in to hear the master call the game. There have actually been times when so many radios were tuned into Vin Scully by fans in Dodger Stadium that Vin had to ask the fans to turn down their radios. Seems they were getting too much feed back and affecting the broadcast. What has always amazed me is that Vin Scully is so good at calling a game that a typical 56, 000 sold out game would much rather listen to Vinny tell you what you are actually witnessing live. He has statistics and humorous or informative stories about players on both teams. The long standing joke from the players is, Vin knows everything about you, and he probably even knows your blood pressure. And one other thing, he calls a game without any bias, and has respect for players and managers on both teams. Oh yes, I have told people for years, I came into Dodger Stadium for that first game as a Braves fan, and left as a Dodger fan. All because of the greatest radio talent to ever call a ball game...Vin Scully.

How can you not be romantic about baseball? This game means so much more to us than numbers, wins, losses, and championships. Its a story. Told along side that of this country.
Every player. Every game.
Every person that buys a ticket.
Everybody watching on TV.
They all have stories. Legends. Myths.

This game brings families together. It creates memories. It forms bonds.
From that of the boy who blossomed in to a legend of the game, to the father and son who bond through catching a baseball together - baseball is, has, and will always be more than just a game.
