I've heard the reverse where they were getting rid of Data Scientists and merging some of those responsibilities with Data Engineering and Machine Learning Engineers.

The job title might change and the work might become more streamlined but the skills a data engineer has will be used til robots take over and kill everyone because the data engineers compiled to much usable data that increased AGI performance. 😅

I've been a senior DA for 3 years, where should I start if I want to be a DE? I use tableau, sql and python a lot, do I need to learn Spark or buy any book, etc?

the de role should not exist, it should just be sde who also own data as a product. kind of lile front end, backend, thete will be a data focused engineer, that we can call data engineer. o wait

The data engineering role might be interesting for a couple of years. Basically it's a necessary, but boring job, moving data around from place to place.
If you're starting out, my advice would be to finding a career that cannot be outsourced always needed. Something like healthcare, construction, skilled trades.

I am data engineer since 2018, before that for 5 years I was Software engineer. Its trippled my income being Pakistan.
Data engineer will never go anywhere, because software engineer applications, IoT devices, web, and other sources will produce data, that would be structured, semi structured and unstructured, data engineers read these data, clean and transform it. and make data available for insights, predictions and analytics, that helpful for organisation growth, future prediction, goals etc

Now can you tell, are data sources will stop producing any data so that Data engineer will not needed anymore?
