In real life though, as in my playthroughs, the Mongols had light and heavy cavalry components besides their horse archers. Those components tended to solve situations like this quite rapidly.

I would have opted for the square formation and keep them without launching weapons. Fewer would have died. The circle formation leaves everyone's back exposed.

Despite that, the battle is very tense, imagine being in the middle of it, waiting for your enemies to run out of arrows before you do.

In real life it wouldn’t work. Check the Kalka battle or Karrah battle. The immovable infantry holding positions and surrounded by horseman will begin starving without food and water supplies as it was in Kalka battle. Additionally horse archers can reload their quivers as it was in Karrah battle. So horse archers has no concurrents at battle field 1000 years history proofs it.

The circle formation is a good idea, against those horsearchers, but thr it is very weak on their back if you watch carefully. And the enemy would for sure exploit this weakness. So to be more precise i would not shoot the arrows on the front of the formation, but on the back of the other side of the circle.

If the Horse Archers weren't on 1 group, this could have ended differently. If it was 2 groups, 1 group could go east and the other to the west of the circle and shoot the backs of the inside of the enemy circle. I think it would have ended in a victory for Khuzait if it was controlled by a player.

con tanta infanteria habria sido mas eficiente dividirlos en 4 grupos y ponerlos en formacion cuadrada, luego hace que cada grupo se mueva en una direccion bloqueando asi el circulo que hacen los caballos de modo que cuando choquen contra las tropas estos los revienten sin necesidad de perder la formacion.

You should ideally seek elevation like a hill and compress your troops into tighter formation to utilize the shields to their full potential. The elevation would slow down any potential lancer charges and reduce the chance of getting hit because A: you leave your soldiers backs exposed and B: horse archers will utilize mobility by encircling your troops and shooting from horseback gives them advantage as they can easily shoot over head .Most importantly although infantry is a core to any army on its own they wont stand a chance against the highly mobile units the skirmishers would break your infantry morale and thin your numbers and lancer would just clean the mess. If you have no means of protecting your flank and launch a counter-offensive your line is gonna break sooner or later.
