I wanted to find out how well the Earthworks SR314 did at recording many different sources. It's a very flat microphone, but certainly not a boring sound. In fact, it sounds huge on many of the sources that I tried.

Surprisingly versatile. Thanks for putting this together, really nice to hear samples on lots of sources.

Man...on the upright piano it was pretty glorious. Position 2 was probably the sweet spot but position 3 captured that lit bit of extra depth and reverberation which was also super cool!

That over the shoulder acoustic tone was lovely!

A few of these are some of the best sounds I've heard in your videos! Seems to interact with your room well, it's a keeper :)

This will be my next microphone for singing in a higher baritone register. This mic sounds absolutely amazing.

This was excellent! I have been looking at this mic quite a bit...

Holt moley!! The conga sound is amazing! On a guitar cab, I think I prefer a 57.. Or a 2011 for mellow jazzy tones.

It really is a great all-around mic.
It didn’t sound bad on anything.👍🏻

The kick sound that thing achieved when in the snare position was.... weirdly good. I imagine that may make it hard to use in tandem with other mics however. I actually loved this thing on vocals, piano, and congas!

The next mic you need to do this with is the sE Electronics V7. It has a high frequency response unlike any other dynamic! Throw that thing on kick or on toms and you will be shocked at the sound you can get with a little EQ!

It sounded really great on those congas!

Earthworks is less than a mile from my house. I know a few really good guys that work there.

I think the mic sounds good on most things as well. Would have been useful to have a comparison between it and some more common mics used for each instrument. Ex: compared to sm57 on snare and another large diaphragm on piano

Always love your mic reviews, thank you! I’ve reached the point where I can finally invest in a nice piece of outboard gear. Though I’m split between an EQ such as the WA-EQP or a nice comp like the Drawmer 1978. I have the SSL E-channel plug-in so I’m leaning towards a compressor. In terms of which one is more vital, which gear would you / did you invest in first?

Thank you ! very interesting Could you please try more handheld live condensers in your studio? DPA D:facto 418VL ( not the more common 4018 V) D:facto is supposed to be extraordinary linear

Interesting review. Thanks. What was the small "wavy" pop screen?

Hell, I just won one of these from Sweetwater. I don't sing very well but I do record a lot of music. Thanks for the review.

Do you recommend this mic on vocals for live applications? On stage not too noisy at all environment but with Bose L1 pro32 behind you
