Earthworks SR314 - Pops, Plosives & Breath Noise... Solved-ish!

I've had a few questions and comments regarding breath noise on the Earthworks SR314. Though not a problem for me, I can see how it might be for others, and for sure. It could be better. Here's one way it might be improved.

That outside foam should come from the factory its so good, to my ears anyway...

Sounds like those low notes are slightly resonating within the microphone itself, might be the main cause of the slight distortion.

Anton, long time fan, first time commenting...Have you found that the sr314 is significantly louder than say the neumann 105? I have both, and the earthworks is so much louder. Wondering if that is normal, or if there is something wrong with my mic. Thank you

I was thinking the foam that worked was the inner foam from the sE V7 or V7x.

I got my SR314 last week and have been struggling with plosives and breath noise. Love the mic sound, though!

A few years late, this comment, but that external foam really worked a treat! Did you find it affected any higher frequencies adversely? I did not hear any significant loss. Great solution.

I find that an 80 hz low cut filter takes care of the issues assuming good mic technique. It took some practice though. I found that adding foam kills the brilliance a bit too much for my liking.

Hello Anton, do you have try to apply a hightpass to the SR314 because its perfectely flat response in low to compare with the Dfacto in the same response curve ( dfactor native curve are 12db/oct set at 100 hz) maybe this setting can bring the pops a lot more better in the SR314, i think this can be a good Video to catch the influence of hightpass to pops with your legendary quality of test. thanks for all

Mr anton hello. I have that mic and i must say that i notice immediately that ouu from when i first plugged it and tryed it..but i also believe this spelling air coming is normal from our mouth.. so the mic takes everything correctly i believe... and i started carefull a alot when singing ouuu. So this mic is improving my spelling and makes me more carefully.. i love this mic compared to all my other mic’s ksm8 ksm 9 ksm 9hs kms105 c636 etc etc
