I've watched this movie in school in 1st grade and it took me until I was like 13 to know who Paul Walker was and when he passed. This was the first movie I watched with him in it. RIP Paul Walker.

He may not be in this scene, but the real hero was the professor’s son whose drawing inspired his dad to repay Shepherd for saving his life. Nothing makes a brighter world than when people put their fellow humans before their own lives

You can literally FEEL Jerry's hope and joy being restored, that he's FINALLY going to keep his promise and save the dogs. He doesn't know what he will find when he gets there yet (fortunately, its GOOD news he finds) but at least now, there's a chance to get them home.

Kind of surreal to watch this. A bizarre ulternate version of Christchurch where Paul Walker goes to Lyttelton Harbour and casually tries to hitch a ride to Antarctica on fishing boats run by generic sea-dog types. Accents are all over the place with not one NZ accent among them. The sailors are Australian. The waitress is possibly English. Absolutely nobody is ever headed to the Ice from Lyttelton, especially on a fishing boat. They would all die. The only real way is to hitch a C-130 ride with the Antarctic Ice flights based out of Christchurch. The US and NZ run a joint program. So yes Christchurch is the gateway to Antarctica but getting there is difficult and dangerous at the best of times (and is almost exclusively done by aircraft). It would also help if the Sea Captain (with the comical captain's hat) actually knew how to pronounce Antarctica. Not a good sign. Any trip to the ice that guy takes would clearly end in death.
