What is EPO? What do athletes and sleep apnoea have in common? EPO is a naturally occurring hormone that helps the body to counter the effects of oxygen deprivation.

Since both athletes and sleep achene suffers have a tendency to be oxygen deprived they have high levels of EPO.

Epo:
As a result of decreased blood perfusion, local ischemia occurs in the kidneys, causing anoxia (absence of O2), which simulates EPO production (Balestra et al., 2006.) EPO stimulates proliferation and maturation of bone marrow's red blood cells.

Breath holding increases EPO:
Results showed that EPO concentration increased by 24%, which peaked at three hours after the final breath hold and returned to baseline two hours later.

so do scoober divers and those people that can hold there breath under water for long time have high epo levels, also breath hold training is a real thing just woundering if thats what its used for

can you stimulate it to much, I have been doing your 5 breath holds twice a day I can cleary see perfomance gains in xc mtb racing, Im thinkg I want to do maybe 3 or 4 times a day, do I need to take any days off?? thanks

Good morning. I will do this test but before that I will do a blood test to check my hematocrit level and after the days of exercise I will go back to do the blood test again to make sure if the hematocrit has risen or not. stop during each repetition?
