Bobby Hebb - Sunny (1966)

One of my most successful productions: released in 1966, written by Bobby Hebb, this became a monster hit for all concerned, in addition to being covered countless times by others.

A wonderful collaboration with Ashford & Simpson and Melba Moore providing the background vocals, along with Academy Award-winning arranger Joe Renzetti (The Buddy Holly Story).

BMI notes that "Sunny" is in the top 25 of 21st Century of all-time hits and there are over 502 cover versions of this classic song.

Video directed by Wedigo Watson, with Jerry Ross Productions

I had the pleasure of working with Bobby Hebb at 10 Park Plaza in Boston. To me he was a gift from heaven and he was a gentleman at all times. When Bobby Hebb died in 2010 The Massachusetts Highway Department lost two great men Bobby Hebb and Raymond O'Flahtery of South Boston. Without Bobby Hebb's music and his gift for life the entire Massachusetts Highway Department would have been dull for many years to come. Wherever you are Bobby all of us who knew you and loved deeply miss you at The Massachusetts Highway Department and so do your friends on the commuter rail which runs everyday from Rockport to Salem and then to Boston at 0724 HRS. Your music is the coolest around and so were you. Steven M. Fanale

I’ve been listening to and loving this song since my childhood back in the 70’s. I always thought he was singing about his dog. My daughter Jazzy just lost her doggie, so I delicate this wonderful song to you Toby. U R loved very much.❤️

I was 2 years old when this song came to be, , I Love this song, I love how it is so genuine, so "sincere" I was fortunate to have grown up with this song, Thank You Bobby Hebb, , , , It would be so nice for this new generation of "so-called music morons" to listen to this & get a clue of what Music really is

Way back when, I worked for a 'Todd's Mens Wear' and there was a Carnaby Street thing at the fairgrounds in Detroit. Bobby Hebb sang at it and later came over to our little booth and I tried to sell him a pair of pants to go with a shirt he had picked out. He didn't like any of my choices and I don't think he bought anything else as far as I can remember, but it was still fun to have tried to sell him something and to have met him.

Sorry to hear that, Donnymac. The lyrics, tune, and singer all came together at the right time. You can't help but like the song. I wonder in todays culture, if any of my generations music would even be published today.I hope Bobby is singing the praises of God today in Paradise. Jesus bless you and your whole family Donnymac. I am wishing you and yours the Merriest Christmas, and the Happiest New Year of your lives. Jim T

I vividly remember seeing him perform this tune and his follow-up (Satisfied Mind) when he toured with the Beatles, The Cyrkle and the Ronettes in the summer of 1966.

The word genius is applied to Bobby Hebb because he was a genius and I mean it. He was the most creative human being of all time. Steven M. Fanale
