During the era of the Cold War, Soviet censorship blocked the paths for countless Russian writers to share their works with the public. Two literary critics based in the U.S. - in Ann Arbor, Michigan - Carl and Ellendea Proffer, took it upon themselves to open Ardis Publishing in the basement of their home, bringing works by Vladimir Nabokov, Joseph Brodsky, Sasha Sokolov, Sergey Dovlatov and many others to the world, and in the process single-handedly changed the course of Russian literature forever, not only in the West but in the Soviet Union itself.

Presented in English and Russian with English/Russian subtitles
Running time: 1hr 34m
