You should have tried it with your purple potato sauce instead. In Galicia, Spain they make a dish called Polbo a Feira. It's octopus served on top of boiled potatoes with a drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkle of hot & sweet Spanish paprika, and a sprinkle of salt. You also get breads to soak up all the oil at the end.

I love smokey, wood-grilled octopus. I had it at a Spanish restaurant, one time, and it came with some flaky salt, a drizzle of Spanish extra virgin olive oil, and some grilled peppers on the side. Thinking back to it, I think you're octopus would actually make a nice topping for pizza (if cooked properly!).
