Ganzo 801 vs. Mesquite!!!

Chop test of the Ganzo 801 survival knife versus two types of wood. My friend was tossing his old (untreated) alder furniture so I figured I would chop some up for firewood. He also gave me a log of mesquite and I figured I would chop some of that up as well. The ironwood was brutal!

Based on the Janka scale of hardness the ironwood is about 4x harder than the alder and it shows in my efforts! I basically got it to within about half and inch and just stepped on it to finish it off. This knife is a bit too stubby for effective chopping, you can't really get a good torque on it, even when you are holding back on the end of the hilt.

All in all the knife held up well, it will need a little sharpening and some of the coating came off but that's to be expected. I finished chopping the rest of the wood with a hatchet but it's good to know that in a pinch the knife can do that kind of work.
