I've grown tired of psychological horror stories that feel obligated to shoehorn in an explanation for why it's all happening. It becomes substantially less scary when you provide an explanation, because humans are hard-wired to need context, and once we have it, we become less scared. That's why liminal spaces are unnerving to some people in the first place. If adding lore didn't work for the backrooms, it certainly won't work here.

I've always loved that theme. I remember watching documentaries about what would happen if humans suddenly disappeared. The initial stillness, then airplanes going out of fuel and crashing, some maintenance-intensive infrastructures going down as well, pets dying, fires breaking out etc... Until all that's left of Humanity is the eroded shapes of ancient stone monuments.

Honestly i would be so scared, not because i would be alone but because my brain loves telling something is right behind the corner or in the dark whenever I'm alone so until i get used to that my days would be spend in fear of whatever brought me there showing up one day.

It's in Europe, so I'm guessing most of the street shots were taken during siesta. Certain towns in Europe look like ghost towns during siesta. The only thing is that restaurants and shops aren't usually wide open during siesta.

i think the thing that ends up happening to ARGs when it starts with the spectacle first and foremost [and then is evolved into an ARG as it goes] is that the GM(?) gets a bit fearful that people aren't content with the Cool Thing they've done, so they have to come up with an explanation after the fact. unfortunately, they are usually quite convoluted and lower the quality overall of the Cool Thing.

i always think about what would happen if everyone vanished except for me, or some individual person. It is a unique concept to explore the lack of decay in an empty world, but decay sounds more interesting .
