The cuphead show- Cuphead’s nightmare

this episode sticks out to me because with Cuphead constantly denying the looming threat of the devil throughout the two seasons, this is the only time we see him really acknowledge the threat - in the dream he admits that he thinks about the devil often.

he can control how he acts on the regular and pretend he isn’t shaken up by it, but he can’t control his reaction to nightmares and when he wakes up screaming he can’t hide his true fear (for a couple of seconds at least). honestly it’s crazy how quickly he recovers from the dream to deny the danger he knows he’s in.

i think the reason Cuphead insists he “isn’t too worried about it” is because he doesn’t want Mugman to worry about it. because in my opinion, Cuphead knows that when Mugman is worried about something he’s usually right to be worried.

Oh geez! I remember this episode. I was watching this with my brother and we were both very confused with this opening. As soon as the pancake hit and that last one stuck to the wall and mugsy peeled it off I was like, "hey he got on- before I could finish my statement, that face appeared then Me and my bro were like, "OH SNAP!" THEN Elder Kettle's body turned I was like "OH NO! HE'S DEAD TOO!" Then I realized it was a nightmare cuphead was having and it all made sense.
THIS SEEN STILL GIVES ME THE HEEBEE JEEBEES!!

I think cupheads nightmare had some thing to it like mugman being eaten is a fear of him loosing his brother and elder kettle as a skeleton is probably because he’s old and wouldn’t have enough time to surpass cuphead and mugmans childhood

This is one of my favorite scenes from the show, as dark as it is. It foreshadows Mugman getting kidnapped by the Devil in season 2; it sets up and hints that Cuphead's "I ain't too worried about it" attitude is a form of denial; and it absolutely shocks anyone who watches this show for the first time and expects funny cartoon shenanigans from the marketing and the episodes prior to this one.
