There was no way that boycotting the game would’ve been successful because the Harry Potter brand is still very popular and trans people represent a fraction of a fraction of the fanbase. To be honest the controversy actually boosted the profile and caused some people to actually buy and play the game.

I’ll add that it’s possible to signal inclusiveness while profiting from generalized transphobia. Yes, there are people who bought the game specifically because they thought Rowling was involved. Imagine that.
