EPCOT wasn’t supposed to be a theme park.

Instead Walt Disney had plans to build a futuristic, utopian community that lie within a few miles of Disney World.

EPCOT actually stands for The Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. EPCOT.

And just a weeks before Walt Disney, died, Disney released this film outlining the grand vision for the community.

It featured a unique radial design, and a 50 acre city center that was completely enclosed and climate controlled. Not to cool or not too hot.

Green space and recreation areas were planned to give people access to everyday fun and relaxation.

Most notably, their transportation vision was super forward thinking.

Cars weren’t intended to intermingle with pedestrians.

Cars and trucks would move beneath the city center, completely out of sight.

On the surface, residents and tourists would move about on the “Wedway People Mover” a non stop conveyor belt of train cars that had been originally experimented with at DisneyLand in California.

After Walt’s death, this vision never came to life, but it makes you wonder what our cities might look like today if it did.

Woww no way, looks to me as if it was inspired by Ebenezer Howard's Garden City? That's so interesting. I used to live near Celebration town, this made me miss it so much 🥹
