New battery cost less than 20 bucks... Way less than you need to spend to maintain automatic watches

I had a solar watch battery lasted 25 years and now just spend CAD$45 for a new chip works fine as before. I dont think that's a big expense. Holzkern (Austria) and Citizen(Japan) are reliable Solar watches

I've owned a citizen Skyhawk for 20 years and it's never had an issue. I've owned a Bulova automatic and it was the worst piece of crap that would stop winding.

Automatic watches are less accurate, more expensive to maintain and more fragile. Quartz ones are way more accurate (nowadays accuracy is increasingly more important) newer models can be synchronized with atomic clocks and/or smartphones and, as you mentioned, there are solar powered ones.

So, dude. Lets talk practicalities for a second. There are way fewer moving parts in a kinetic watch over mechanical. Mechanicals are overpriced because snobbery and sentimentalism. The service interval of kinetic is exceptionally low, as is the service cost compared to mechanical (I have both). And Kinetic are far more precise as well, and you don't have to wear it every other day to keep it running. So, get over it. Kinetic are superior, UNLESS you want to play the collecting game with the other snobs. But remember the majority of the mechanical watches do not increase in value over time, because either they aren't kept pristine (and how could they be if they are actually used as a wristwatch), or the snobs don't prefer that model. For those wondering, I have a Tag Aquaracer I roll out for nice dinners and the like, it hasn't appreciated, and even costing $4000 or more it is still not good enough for snobs. I bought it because I LIKE to WEAR it. It's too heavy to put up with for daily use!

Mechanical watches aren't as accurate as quartz watches.

Automatic/Mechanical watches will need servicing after x amount of years.
Reason being Automatic/Mechanical will start to run to fast or to slow.
Servicing a watch in many cases will as expensive as buying the same watch new.
So its splitting hairs between a solar battery change and a watch service. If you don't mind your Automatic/ Mechanical watch running minutes fast or slow, thats fine it may go on working until you give up the ghost.

Mate batteries aren’t costly tbh or a new capacitor. An Automatic costs way more to service.

ohohoh boy, wait till you see the service prices for a rebuild for a mechanical watch. There is no such thing as 0 maintenance, everything requires it. want propper no maintenance, get a casio f91w, change batt every 4 years and done
